.PRO Domains for Professional

The .PRO domain extension, introduced in 2002, was designed to enhance security and credibility for visitors accessing websites. This extension is exclusively reserved for professionals who need to showcase their expertise. Professionals are required to verify their credentials during the domain registration process.Important Update: As of November 16th, 2015, special conditions are no longer necessary for registering .PRO domains. The restrictions that were previously in place have been removed from that date onward.

Approximately 47,000.PRO domains are currently registered, making it a well-liked option among professionals.

Premium Domains Option

Some .PRO domains are considered premium names, which may have a higher initial registration fee compared to standard registrations. Residency requirements

There are no residency requirements for .PRO domains. They are open for registration to anyone worldwide.

Renewals

Renewing your .PRO domain is a quick process and can be done at any time.

Transfers

To transfer a .PRO domain, you'll need your current registrar to provide you with the domain's AuthCode or EPP-Key to verify ownership. Transfer processes typically take between 5 and 7 days to complete, although some registrars offer manual transfers that can be completed on the same day. Contact your current registrar for information about this service.

Upon completing a transfer, the domain's expiration date is extended by one year.

Cancellations

You can request the cancellation of your .PRO domain by visiting the support center to open a support ticket. Please note that canceling a domain does not result in a refund of registration fees.

DNS modifications

DNS modifications for .PRO domains take effect immediately. However, keep in mind that these changes need to propagate through the network, which can take 6-12 hours to complete. During this time, the domain will still point to the previous DNS servers.

.PRO domains support the usage of DNSSEC, an added security layer that compatible DNS servers can provide. DNSSEC: What is it and how does it work.

Domain owner change

Starting from December 1st, 2016, any ownership changes for .PRO domains require approval from both the current and new owners. After an ownership change is completed, the domain is locked and cannot be transferred for a 60-day period.

Permitted characters / IDN

.PRO domains permit characters from 'a' to 'z', numbers from '0' to '9', and hyphens '-'. Hyphens are not allowed in the first or last position of the domain name, and two consecutive hyphens are not permitted in the 3rd and 4th positions.

An Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) is a domain name that can contain non ASCII characters.

IDN domains don't permit to mix different Scripts or character sets (for example, Latin, Greek or Cyrillic). But it's possible to use different character tables for a same script.

  • The Latin Script permits the use of characters of Latin-1 supplement, Latin Extended-A, Latin Extended-B, etc.. tables.
  • The Greek Script permits to combine characters of the Greek, Greek Extended, etc.. tables, doesn't permit combine them with the normal latin characters (a-z), but permits the use of numbers or hyphens.
  • Other script types have their own corresponding tables.
